Since March 2004, Ashfield Council has recognized the importance of bicycling activities in the community and resolved in May of that year, via a Greens councillor motion, to refocus attention on this neglected area. This resulted in a decision to revamp Ashfield’s outdated Bicycle Plan, formulated in the 1980s.

The ‘Healthy and Active Transport Program’ (HEAT) is an alliance of the Australian cycling sector made up of the Cycling Promotion Fund, Cycling Australia, The Bicycle Federation of Australia and the various state-based Bicycle NSW, Qld, and SA.

Motion by Clrs Rerceretnam, Hawkins and Dale

It is a undisputed scientific fact that burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and hence, temperatures are rising.

The majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, is already occurring and it is the result of human activities and not a natural occurrence.
