The on-going Community Harmony Project undertaken by Macquarie University’s “Centre for Social Inclusion” in conjunction with Ashfield Council have been successfully working with local Ashfield CBD shopkeepers since October 2005.

Notice of Motion to Ashfield Council
Ashfield Green councillors
Complaints about the tardiness of the Ashfield CBD and its surrounding neighbourhoods, especially in relation to abandoned shopping trolleys, has been an on-going source of complaints to the 3 new Green councillors.
The 3 new Green councillors are committed to cleaning up Ashfield’s tardy and grubby image and feel such an initiative will have a positive outcome for the municipality and its residents.
While efforts have been made to solve this problem in the past via regular supermarket trolley pickups, abandoned trolleys persist in many neighbourhood streets especially in the outskirts of the Ashfield CBD area.

There is little doubt that Ashfield’s Town Centre along Liverpool Road is in need of rejuvenation and has deteriorated since the late 1970s.
“Over this period Council did nothing to improve the Liverpool Road shop fronts. The shopping strip has deteriorated to such a level that many local residents avoid the area”, Councillor Marc Rerceretnam said. “It is time Ashfield Council took responsibility to properly manage this area”, he continued.
